One small step when life feels heavy

Tell Hilmo how you feel as weather — stormy, foggy, heavy rain, heatwave — how much energy you have and how many minutes you’ve got. It suggests one short practice, tells you why, and learns what actually helps you. Free, private, and it works offline.

How it works

01Check in

Pick the weather inside, your energy and your time. Add a few words or tags if you like.

02Get one step

One short practice that fits — with the reason it was chosen.

03Learn what helps

Rate it afterwards. Hilmo remembers what works for you, and never suggests something you said felt worse.

Everything in one quiet app

  • 59 short practices from established methods (CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness): grounding, breathing rhythms, worry sorting, thought checks, tiny steps, self-compassion, body scan, urge surfing.
  • “I need help right now” — a two-minute settle with no questions, and a hard-moment mode one tap away.
  • Mood history — a calendar of your check-ins, with tags that show what goes with your better days.
  • Self-checks for low mood, worry and wellbeing (PHQ-9, GAD-7, WHO-5), with your history. A score is not a diagnosis.
  • Panic diary that shows how episodes rise, peak and pass.
  • Sleep — a sleep diary, calm sounds made on your phone with a sleep timer, and a Sleep skills program from CBT for insomnia.
  • Brave steps — face a fear one small step at a time.
  • Can’t get started? Break a task into tiny steps, use a visual timer, or pick from a feel-good menu.
  • Private journal with prompts, tags and search; habits with no streaks to break.
  • Calm games and quiet sitting with bells for a few minutes of rest.
  • Help numbers for 32 countries that work offline, each checked against an official source.
  • Daylight and Graphite themes — switch any time.

Private by design

Everything you write stays on your phone, encrypted with AES-256. There is no account, no analytics, and nothing to sign up for. Backups are encrypted with a passphrase only you know.

Small ads from Google appear on a few list screens to keep Hilmo free — never on help, hard-moment or practice screens. Read the privacy policy.

Made with care

  • No streaks, no guilt, no mascot asking for attention.
  • “This feels worse” hides a practice for good.
  • Help is reachable from every screen, even before you finish setting up.
Important: Hilmo is a self-help app for adults (18+). It is not a medical device, it doesn’t diagnose or treat any condition, and it isn’t an emergency service. If you are in danger, contact your local emergency number now.

Questions

Is Hilmo free?

Yes. Hilmo is free. Small Google ads on a few list screens pay for it; there are never ads on help, hard-moment or practice screens, and Settings has an optional “watch an ad to support Hilmo” button.

Does it need the internet or an account?

No account, ever. Everything works offline; only the ads need a connection.

Is my data private?

Yes. What you write is stored only on your phone, encrypted. We don’t collect personal data and there are no analytics.

Is Hilmo therapy?

No. It teaches short self-help skills from established methods. It doesn’t replace a doctor, psychologist or counsellor, and it can make a summary you can show one.

Can it tell me if I have depression or anxiety?

No app can diagnose you. The self-checks show how the last two weeks have been and how that changes; a doctor or psychologist can tell you what it means.

Which help numbers are included?

Emergency and crisis numbers for 32 countries, including Pakistan, India, the UK, the US, Canada, Australia and the Gulf, each checked against an official source and usable offline.

Is it on iPhone?

Android first. An iPhone version may follow.
