The Short Version
Everything you do in the app stays on your phone. Your progress, streaks, quiz scores, tags, exam settings and the notes you write are stored on your device only. We never receive them, and there is no account or sign-in.
The app is free and shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may use a device advertising identifier and basic technical information to show and measure those ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent first, and on iOS Apple asks you separately before any tracking.
Who We Are
I/O Psychology Prep ("the App") is published by Shahzeb Speaks LLC, 1500 N Grant St, Denver, CO 80203-1859, United States ("we", "us"). It is available on Google Play (Android) and the App Store (iPhone). This policy covers both.
Data Stored on Your Device
- Study progress — mastered cards, review schedule, quiz and challenge scores, XP, streaks and badges.
- Your notes and tags — anything you write on a card, theorist or book, free notes, and the Weak / Important / Revise tags.
- Settings — dark mode, daily goal, exam date and syllabus, reminder times.
This is kept in the app's private storage on your phone. It is never uploaded and we cannot see it. Resetting progress in Settings erases your scores but keeps your notes; uninstalling the App deletes everything permanently. Because nothing is stored on a server, there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
If you use the Share button, the text or image you choose is handed to your phone's own share sheet and goes only where you send it.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The App shows three kinds of ad from Google AdMob: a banner at the bottom of some screens, a full-screen ad at a natural break (for example after a quiz or a set of cards, at most once a minute), and a full-screen ad when you return to the App after using another app (at most once every 15 minutes, never when the App first opens).
To show and measure ads, AdMob may collect and process:
- A resettable device advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID, or Apple's IDFA on iOS if you allow tracking)
- Device and app information such as model, operating system and app version
- An approximate location inferred from your IP address
- Ad interactions such as views and taps
This data goes to Google, not to us, and is handled under Google's policies:
Nothing you write or study is ever given to AdMob. Your notes, scores and progress are not passed to the advertising SDK in any form.
Consent & Your Choices
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the App asks for your consent before any ads are requested, using Google's certified consent platform (the User Messaging Platform). If you do not give consent, the App does not request personalised ads, and may show no ads at all.
You can change your choice at any time: Settings → Ad privacy choices in the App. (This option appears for users in the regions where the consent message applies.)
Everywhere, you can also reset your advertising identifier or limit ad personalisation in your phone's settings — on Android under Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Security & privacy → Ads), and on iPhone under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
Tracking on iOS
On iPhone, the advertising identifier (IDFA) is available only if you allow it in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", the IDFA is not shared and ads are shown without it. Every part of the App works the same either way.
Study Reminders
If you turn reminders on, your phone schedules them itself. They are local notifications: no server is involved and no information about you is sent anywhere to deliver them. The App asks for notification permission only when you switch reminders on, and you can turn them off in Settings at any time.
Internet Access
All study content — cards, quizzes, the library and your notes — is built into the App and works offline. The App uses the internet for two things only: to load ads (and the consent message, where it applies), and to download its display fonts the first time they are needed. The font download sends nothing about you beyond what any web request requires. The Privacy policy link in Settings opens this page in your browser.
Children
The App is a study aid for university students and adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to This Policy
If the way the App handles data changes, this page is updated first, the date at the top changes with it, and the new version appears at this same address.
