A job evaluation score looks objective. It is a weighted sum of judgements, and the weights were somebody’s opinion, usually written years ago by people who have left.
This scores the job the ordinary way — factors, weights, levels, a total, a grade from the boundaries you set — and then does the thing that actually matters, which almost no scheme does: it moves each factor by ONE level and reports whether the grade changes.
On the figures it ships with, the job scores 315 and lands five points below the next grade. Every one of its five factors, moved a single level, crosses the boundary. One level is the difference between two competent people reading the same job description.
That does not make the score wrong. It means the grade is not being decided by the arithmetic, and the honest response is to argue about those two or three factors openly rather than to present the total as though it settled the question. The table names which ones.
It is equally careful the other way. A job sitting in the middle of a band, where nothing moves it, is reported as stable — because a check that only ever says there is a problem is not a check.
Two jobs on the same score are equal ACCORDING TO THIS SCHEME. The scheme is yours, and this page cannot tell you its weights are right. What it can do is apply them the same way every time, which is the entire benefit of having a scheme at all.
A grade is not a salary. It is an input to a pay band, and the band comes from market data this page does not have. No claim about employment law is made or implied anywhere on it.
Save as many versions as you like and put any two side by side, figure against figure, with the better one on each line marked and the difference in its own column. That screen is the one that decides things, and it is the part a free calculator cannot do at all. Two jobs side by side, with the sensitivity of each, is the comparison a grading appeal actually turns on.
One HTML file. No account, no subscription, no internet needed. Opens on Windows, Mac and Android; the readme explains the extra step on iPhone and iPad, where Apple blocks JavaScript in downloaded files and every tool of this kind is affected.
Everything lives in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded, which is why it works offline and why nobody else can see your figures — and it also means clearing your browsing data deletes it. The tool does not pretend otherwise: the header shows how long since your last export at all times, turns amber after three days and red after seven, and export is one click that produces a plain file you keep.
