Plumber Quote Builder

Plumbing has a specific way of losing money: the job you quoted is not the job you did. There is a second fix, there is a commissioning visit, there is the phone call three weeks later. Almost every plumbing job has one of those and almost no quote contains it.

This prices the whole thing. Fixtures and fittings kept separate from consumables, so you can see what you are financing on the customer’s behalf. A line for the return visit. A line for out-of-hours work, charged as a line rather than by quietly inflating the hours, because a customer who can see what the evening call-out costs argues with it far less than one who suspects the hours were padded.

Underneath it is the same costing every trade needs and most skip: labour at its burdened cost rather than the wage, materials with a waste allowance, travel at what the van costs rather than what the fuel costs, and overhead recovered from a real monthly figure spread across the hours you can actually bill.

And it argues with you. It says so when the labour rate is a wage rather than a cost, when no overhead is being recovered at all, when a percentage entered as margin was probably meant as markup, and when the job would leave the business earning less per hour than the person holding the wrench.

What it is not: it does not send the quote or take the payment. It works out what the number should be.
