Everybody remembers the offer that got turned down. Almost nobody remembers the hundred and forty-four people the CV screen dropped, and that is usually where the process is actually deciding things.
Put in how many people were at each stage and it gives you the pass rate and the losses at each, end to end, with a cost per hire from what filling the role really cost.
The care is in what it refuses to read. On the seeded figures the offer stage has the lowest pass rate on the page — and it is working from eighteen people, so one decision moves it enormously. Any stage starting from fewer than thirty is shown and explicitly left out of the finding, which is why the tool points at the CV screen instead. That is the difference between a number and a finding.
It is also careful not to tell you a narrow stage is a problem. A screen that passes forty per cent might be doing exactly its job, or might be throwing away people you needed, and nothing on one page can tell those apart. What it does is point at the stage where the question is worth asking, which is more useful than a benchmark from somebody else’s industry.
One role at a time, on purpose. Two roles averaged together describes neither, and the average is where the thing actually costing you money hides.
Save as many versions as you like and put any two side by side, figure against figure, with the better one on each line marked and the difference in its own column. That screen is the one that decides things, and it is the part a free calculator cannot do at all. The same role twice, six months apart, is the comparison worth having.
One HTML file. No account, no subscription, no internet needed. Opens on Windows, Mac and Android; the readme explains the extra step on iPhone and iPad, where Apple blocks JavaScript in downloaded files and every tool of this kind is affected.
Everything lives in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded, which is why it works offline and why nobody else can see your figures — and it also means clearing your browsing data deletes it. The tool does not pretend otherwise: the header shows how long since your last export at all times, turns amber after three days and red after seven, and export is one click that produces a plain file you keep.
