Student Grade and Attendance Planner

Two questions run a term, and both have exact answers almost nobody works out: what do I need on everything still to come, and how many more of these can I miss?

Put in each assessment, what it is worth, and the mark for anything handed back. Leave the rest blank. The page gives you the mark needed across everything outstanding, the best and worst the module can still finish on, and the average you are running at on work already marked — which is a different number from the module grade, and confusing the two is the commonest error in a grade calculator.

Where it differs from every free one is what it does when the answer is bad. If a target would need more than full marks on everything left, it does not print 109% as though that were an instruction. It says the target is no longer reachable, tells you the best the module can now finish on, and says the useful thing: change the target now rather than in six weeks, and go and talk to somebody while there is still time for it to matter.

Attendance works the same way. It tells you how many of the remaining sessions you must attend and how many you can still miss — and when even a perfect run from here falls short of the requirement, it says so and takes over the page, because that is the more urgent thing and students are almost always told it too late.

Save as many versions as you like and put any two side by side, figure against figure, with the better one on each line marked and the difference in its own column. That screen is the one that decides things, and it is the part a free calculator cannot do at all.

It does not know your institution’s rules on scaling, capping, resits or condonement, and it is not a substitute for your handbook or your tutor. Marks are awarded by your university, not by this page. What it does is the arithmetic, including the part where the arithmetic says no.

Everything lives in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded, which is why it works offline and why nobody else can see your figures — and it also means clearing your browsing data deletes it. The tool does not pretend otherwise: the header shows how long since your last export at all times, turns amber after three days and red after seven, and export is one click that produces a plain file you keep.
