Offers are compared on the salary and decided on the salary, and the salary is not what an offer is worth.

On the figures this ships with, an offer of sixty thousand beats one of sixty-five thousand by nearly five thousand a year. Not because of anything hidden — because of the bonus, the employer pension, five extra days of holiday, and five days a week of commuting against three. Every one of those is on the offer letter or easily asked about, and almost nobody adds them up.

Then it does something a compensation calculator does not: it divides by the hours the job actually takes, including getting there. Commuting is time the job takes and nothing else uses, so it belongs in the hourly figure even though no payslip mentions it. On the same two offers, counting the hours widens the gap rather than closing it.

One deliberate piece of arithmetic. Holiday counts only ABOVE the statutory minimum where you are, because the rest is already inside the salary — counting all of it would value the same thing twice and quietly favour whichever offer had the longer holiday. The statutory figure is an input, because it differs by country.

Save as many versions as you like and put any two side by side, figure against figure, with the better one on each line marked and the difference in its own column. That screen is the one that decides things, and it is the part a free calculator cannot do at all. Fill one in, save it, fill in the other, and read the difference column.

It puts no value on the work itself, the people, or where the job leads. Those are usually the right reasons to take the lower offer, they have no number, and a tool that pretended to price them would be worse than one that says so. What this settles is the half that is arithmetic — so the other half can be decided without a number quietly arguing against it.
