About this product

Two things decide when you can stop working: what you spend, and what you save. Everything else is commentary, and most calculators bury both under a return assumption that does the heavy lifting.

This one starts every growth assumption at zero and asks for a real return, after inflation, so the target it gives you means what it would buy today rather than what a big number might buy in thirty years. It shows the savings rate next to the years, because the savings rate is the lever you control and the return is not.

It separates two questions most tools run together. Your net worth includes the pension. Whether the pension counts toward leaving work at forty-five is a different matter entirely, and there is a switch for it — a pot you cannot touch for twenty years does not fund the twenty years before that.

The projection shows the pot year by year and marks the year growth on it first exceeds what you put in. That is the moment the thing starts working for you rather than the other way round, and it is invisible in any single number.

Save as many as you like and put any two side by side, figure against figure, with the better one on each line marked and the difference in its own column. That screen is the one that decides things, and it is the part a free calculator cannot do at all.

This is arithmetic, not financial advice. It does not know your tax, your pension rules or your state benefits, and it assumes a steady return that no real year has ever delivered. Use it to see the shape of the thing, not to plan around a date.

One HTML file. No account, no subscription, no internet needed. Opens on Windows, Mac and Android; the readme explains the extra step on iPhone and iPad, where Apple blocks JavaScript in downloaded files and every tool of this kind is affected.

Everything lives in your browser on your device. Nothing is uploaded, which is why it works offline and why nobody else can see your figures — and it also means clearing your browsing data deletes it. The tool does not pretend otherwise: the header shows how long since your last export at all times, turns amber after three days and red after seven, and export is one click that produces a plain file you keep.
