Etsy Profit Calculator: Fees, Profit and the Offsite Ads Check
How much does Etsy take per sale?
Etsy takes a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, a payment processing fee (US 3% + $0.25, UK 4% + £0.20, Canada 3% + C$0.25), and $0.20 for the listing or its renewal. UK shops add a 0.48% regulatory operating fee and Canadian shops 0.50%. On a $30 US order that is about $3.30. An Offsite Ads sale adds 15% or 12%.
Most Etsy sales cost you about 10-12% of the order total in fees. The sale that hurts is the one Etsy brings in through an Offsite Ad: another 15% of the order, and you cannot choose which sales those are. A listing with a thin margin can make money most days and lose money on those orders.
Pick where your bank account is, type the price, the shipping you charge, your postage label and your costs, and see the profit on a normal sale and on an Offsite Ads sale.

Every Etsy fee on a sale, by country
Transaction fee: 6.5% of the order total in your listing currency, including shipping and gift wrap you charge. Payment processing: set by where your bank account is: US 3% + $0.25, UK 4% + £0.20, Canada 3% + C$0.25 for orders from Canada or the US and 4% + C$0.25 for other international orders. Etsy takes it on the total sale price including shipping and any sales tax. Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, and $0.20 again when a sold listing auto-renews; it is charged in US dollars and converted. Regulatory operating fee: UK sellers 0.48% (up from 0.32% on 22 June 2026) and Canadian sellers 0.50%, on item price plus shipping and gift wrap. US sellers do not pay it. Currency conversion: 2.5% if you list in a different currency from your bank account.
UK sellers who have not given Etsy a VAT ID are charged VAT on their seller fees, and Canadian sellers can be charged GST/HST on some fees. Sales tax or VAT that Etsy collects from the buyer is not your money and is not part of your profit.
Offsite Ads: the fee that changes the answer
Etsy advertises listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Bing and partner sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, that order carries an Offsite Ads fee: 15% of the order total if your shop has always made less than $10,000 in any 365-day period, or 12% once it has made $10,000 or more. The fee never goes above $100 for one order. Under $10,000 you can opt out in Shop Manager; once you pass $10,000, Offsite Ads are required for the life of the shop. You cannot pick which listings Etsy advertises, so price every listing so that it still breaks even on an Offsite Ads sale, or accept that some of those sales lose money.
Worked example
A US shop sells a $25 item and charges $5 shipping, so the order total is $30. The transaction fee is 6.5% × $30 = $1.95, processing is 3% × $30 + $0.25 = $1.15, and the listing fee is $0.20: $3.30 in Etsy fees, 11% of the order. Materials $6, packaging $1, the postage label $4.50 and about $0.50 of Etsy Ads per sale add up to $12. The sale leaves $30 − $3.30 − $12 = $14.70. If the same order comes through an Offsite Ad, Etsy adds 15% × $30 = $4.50 and the sale leaves $10.20. The lowest item price that breaks even is $8.76 on a normal sale and $11.49 on an Offsite Ads sale.
Mistakes that make Etsy prices too low
Charging less shipping than the label costs. The gap comes straight out of your profit, and Etsy still takes its fees on the shipping you do charge. Pricing on the normal-sale margin only. A listing at a 10% margin loses money on every Offsite Ads sale. Forgetting the fixed fees on cheap items. The $0.20 listing fee and the $0.25 processing flat fee are 7% of a $6.50 sale before the percentages. Leaving out your time. If a necklace takes 20 minutes, those minutes are a cost even if you do not pay yourself yet.
What this will not tell you
This free version checks one sale with the standard fees. It does not include gift wrap, sales tax on the processing fee, Share & Save refunds, currency conversion, the one-time shop set-up fee, Etsy Plus, refunds or income tax. UK and Canadian listing fees and the $100 cap use approximate exchange rates (1 USD = £0.75 = C$1.38). Fees change: the Etsy pages below win over this page. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
